If you are using blogger.com for your blog then you probably know that blogger few months back changed its interface to a completely new one. Also blogger added a new section to its tools which is called "Search Preferences" and which is only to make blogger more SEO friendly. So that option was the most awaited one which is now helping all blogger users to create more SEO friendly blogs.
I previously, published many posts on this blog which described the new added features into blogger new interface such as meta description tag, 404 not found page, robots.txt file and custom redirection in blogger. And the last part of that page iscustom robots header tags which I'm going to explain today through this article.
How to enable robots header tags in blogger?
in order to know more about this feature you should first learn how can you enable this feature for your blog, so for doing so kindly follow given steps and we'll discuss them below:- Go to blogger Dashboard
- Now go to Setting >> Search Preferences >> Custom Robots header tags >> Edit >> yes and check the boxes as showing in below screen shoot
In above page we only checked the necessary options for our blog, the rest are not important for a personal or small blog. We checked the All & Noodp for the home page and noindex & noodp for archive and searched pages. Also for single posts we checked the all & Noodp options which I'm going to explain what basically all of them are:
- All: the all attribute means that all content inside the webpage should be crawled and indexed and this attribute is always added by default
- Noindex: this attribute means or it tells the search engine bots; that do not index the entire web page.
- Nofollow: this attribute means to tell the bots that do not crawl any link inside the web page
- None: it seems like noindex, but tells the bots that neither index the page nor the links inside the page
- Noarchive: this attribute is used for not crawling the pages which searched either on Google or remain in the Google cache
- Nosnippet: this attribute means to not show or index any snippet that was remained in the cache
- Noodp: this attribute means; Do not use the metadata from open directory project [Dmoz] and also do not show the titles or snippets from there
- Notranslate: this attribute tells the robots to not show translation option
- Noimageindex: this attribute is specefically used for not indexing the images in search engines
- Unavailable_after: this attribute tells the search engine that this page won't be available after a specified date
So the above are the explanations for each attributes which are now available in blogger new interface, however, I'd recommend you to use only use the attributes which are mentioned in above screen shoot. However, you can also use noindex attribute if you want to hide any irrelevant page from the search engines.
